Initial Blog

I thought I'd start this blog by talking about why I haven't blogged until now. For the past 5 years, I have either been programming, learning how to program or at leas have though about programming if the rest of my website or resume has not given that away. I would have thought I'd have made some time to put my thoughts to paper for others to see assuming any were interested. But I've recently graduated as a software engineer and I am yet to have written a word.

But why is that?

Well there's the obvious answer in that I've been "busy" which is true. But any programmer who runs a blog is also busy but they still take the time to program. So maybe I'm making excuses. That is also true, but maybe a little harsh for what I want to find out. I believe my problem lies somewhere in the middle and is the kind of question I expect to bring up as my biggest weakness in any interview.

I tend to over do things.

I know this can easily step into the "I work too much" answer most people in HR would get as well as the typical perfectionist route. But I still believe this answer is worth acknowledging and rectifying. When I think about doing a blog, I think about it getting traction, having credability, perhaps even being monetized in the future. All of which are worthy goals. However, what this means is that a blog is nologer just a blog. It's SEO optimized, fully researched and fleshed out and not just one blog but a commitment to 500 words a week.

But I know how short a blog can be.

I also know how bad a blog can be. I've seen blogs the size of my first paragraph dished out. I've also seen some blogs that are barely reviewed or spell checked, all of which would be updated more consistantly than mine, which is just getting its first one. So should I make space for amazing keyword laden, multi source researched articles and 2000 word posts describing entire projects? Probably. But it shouldn't interfere with with more casual conversations. I think even this post is a too long and i should be able to post out much smaller thoughts than this. Then again, I've pretty much written this on the fly and I shouldn't need to edit it... much.

Anyway, Those who don't know me (likely all of you) I'm Alex Grbic, a recent software engineer graduate from Macquarie University. I'm interested in programming as a craft, video gamess as an art and whittling down humanity into its barebone qualities that can be encoded into the AI in the future. I'm hoping to talk about it all here. I'll keep it as segmented as possible, but so I don't put off a topic to write about, I'll think about making separe blogs in the future. I've been keeping myself busy over the past few months while being both unemployed and not dying from coronavirus so I hope to bring those ones up as well. Anyway, welcome to my website!
